The first time Lea Morris sang in public, she was a three year old with her hair styled in two afro puff balls. The hymn was Sweet Sweet Spirit. The First Baptist church of Baltimore was the proving ground where the future troubadour learned the sanctity and power of music. After discovering classic rock and Bossa nova in high school, Lea began to teach herself to play the acoustic guitar by writing songs. Eventually, she came to develop her own style, Soulfolk which continues to expand with the live addition of looped percussion and harmonies. While Lea Morris is often compared to Tracy Chapman and has shared the stage with luminaries like Mavis Staples and Odetta, her dynamic guitar work, luscious vocals and award-winning songwriting is eclectic and rich. Lea resides in Germany, but in her hometown of Washington DC, she’s often been acknowledged as one of the area’s best composers and recording artists. Since the pandemic, her choral compositions are being sung by choirs around the world. In 2024, Lea Morris’ creative hands are full with the establishment of a new record label and the release of her next full-length album, Ordinary Magic.
